When it comes to talking dirty in the bedroom, there are a lot of “how to” guides on the internet, but nothing quite prepares you for the reaction of your partner, no matter how much advice you seek out beforehand. This inspired the experts at TheDozyOwl.co.uk to analyze the scientific effects of talking dirty. . .

To do this, TheDozyOwl compiled a list of “dirty” phrases inspired and asked 100 couples to wear a smart watch while uttering these not-so-sweet nothings to their partner in the bedroom,  to better understand which phrase causes the greatest spike in heart rate.

Some of their key findings include:

  • The phrase that raised men’s heart rate the most is “You make me so wet” with an average BPM of 128.
  • The phrase that raised women’s heart rate the most is “I want to make you come” with an average BPM of 121.
  • The phrase that didn’t affect women’s heart rate is “Oh my god, I’m gonna come” with an average BPM of 99.

“That feels so good”. In third place is “Whatever you do, don’t stop” with an average of 118 BPM.

Marissa, 24, London: “I love sex. But for me it means nothing if dirty talk isn’t involved. Silence and groans here and there just makes me feel awkward. I love knowing how much I’m wanted and how good I’m making my partner feel. At the end of the day that’s what sex boils down to – making yourself and your partner feel good. How are you going to know you’re doing that in silence?”

Results for Men
After hearing their partner whisper this lustful sweet-nothing, the phrase that raised men’s heart rate the most is “You make me so wet” with an average BPM of 128.

Following in second place, with an average of 124 BPM, is the phrase “F*** me harder.” In third place is “I want to make you come” with an average of 121 BPM.
In fourth place is the phrase “That feels so good” (117 BPM) and in fifth place is “I’ve been waiting for this all day” at 116 BPM.
Jake, 31, Buckinghamshire: “Dirty talk for me is what makes sex so enjoyable. I want to know what I’m doing makes the woman I’m with feel good. I’m not here for the theatrics, if she doesn’t like something that’s fine, each woman is different. That is why communicating during sex is key.”

Spokesperson for TheDozyOwl, Alex, comments: “When it comes to dirty talk in the bedroom, it’s good to start off slow and steady. You don’t want to jump in and get too graphic straight away. You need to allow it to build naturally. Start with PG phrases like “I love that” or “That feels good”. The key to making what you say work, is confidence, be assertive with what you say as confidence is the biggest turn on.”
