Rich in history, a swizzle is a drink that traces its origins to before the first cocktail. Touted as Bermuda’s national drink, the drink received its namesake for the way it’s mixed, rather than for the ingredients in the drink. Supposedly served at the world’s first cocktail party in London in 1924, the name stems from a long stemmed and pronged stick that was used to incorporate ice properly into the drink. Apparently the key to a proper swizzle is to spin the stick between your palms to whip the drink into a frothy ice-cold concoction.
