Univision’s 20th anniversary of PREMIOS JUVENTUD reunited top Latin artists under one roof and delivered an epic celebration with show-stopping musical performances, big award wins, and special honors that gave the audience an evening they’ll never forget.

Hosted by Alejandra Espinoza, Ángela Aguilar, Dayarana Torres, and Marcus Ornellas, this year’s ceremony reached 4.4 million Total Viewers 2+, who tuned in to all or part of the three-hour live simulcast broadcast on Univision and Galavision and solidified its position as the premiere fan-voted awards show honoring the best in Latin music, changemakers, and pop culture.

The milestone celebration, held July 20th from the historic Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, ranked as the No. 1 program on all of television in primetime for the second consecutive year and positioned Univision as the No. 1 network on all of television for the entire night for the third consecutive year among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

Featuring a historic urban opening number produced by legendary global music icon Daddy Yankee and Dominican duo Luny Tunes, which paid tribute to the musical genre that’s taken over the world, the hottest bash of the summer, PREMIOS JUVENTUD increased its overall audience by +4% from the 2022 edition and averaged 1.9 million Total Viewers 2+, 755,000 Adults 18-49 and 330,000 Adults 18-34.

According to Nielsen ratings it outperformed the latest editions of the “American Music Awards,” “Billboard Music Awards,” “iHeartRadio Music Awards,” “People’s Choice Awards” as well as the “Video Music Awards” by double-to-triple digits among Adults 18-34. The awards show also attracted more U.S. Hispanic viewers than the combined audience of the latest editions of the “American Music Awards,” “Billboard Music Awards,” “CMA Awards” and “Video Music Awards” among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. Iconic artists representing different musical genres including Regional Mexican, Reggaeton, Pop, Merengue, and more, participated in the ‘Hora Loca’ inspired celebration. Some of the night’s performing artists were Ángela Aguilar, Camila, Chencho Corelone, Chiquis, CNCO, Danna Paola, De La Ghetto, Eslabon Armado, Farruko, Hermanos Rosario, Paulina Rubio, R.K.M & Ken-Y, Tiago PZK, Wisin, Zion y Lennox, and many more.

“Exprésate a tu Manera” (Express Yourself Authentically) was the theme of the night, which was brought to life through powerful live performances on stage and the unique style of attending fans and artists. The 4-hour broadcast began with the dynamic red carpet and pre-show NOCHE DE ESTRELLAS which averaged more Total Viewers 2+ (1.4 million), Adults 18-49 (503,000) and Adults 18-34 (214,000) than the 2022 edition.

This year’s telecast of PREMIOS JUVENTUD also generated massive buzz on social media platforms, with millions of interactions, mentions, and trending hashtags, garnering 5.5 million total interactions across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, making it the most-social program of the day across all of tv and the top 3 most-social Spanish-language award show across all of TV in 2023 thus far.

During this year’s ceremony and in true PREMIOS JUVENTUD fashion, Global superstars Shakira and Camila Cabello were recognized for their extensive work and contributions to enacting positive social change. In addition to receiving this important recognition, Shakira was the biggest winner of the night earning eight awards including “Premios Juventud Female Artist”, followed by Mexican regional star Peso Pluma and Colombian singer Karol G who received five awards each.
Peso Pluma’s wins include “Premios Juventud Male Artist,” and Karol G won “Best Urban Album – Female” among others. Bad Bunny, Bizarrap, and Rosalía followed with four PJ awards each.
