Shanghai Fashion Week is the largest fashion event in China, held in Shanghai twice a year. During this time, the city attracts not only representatives of Asian fashion brands, but also fashion experts, buyers, journalists and tourists from around the world.  We had the opportunity to attend the event and here we bring you a preview of  the main trends for Spring-Summer 2019.

A special feature of Shanghai Fashion Week that new local brands have an opportunity to showcase their designs. The event offers a huge audience and the possibility of a successful start to a new brand.

Some designers presented more creative avant-garde collections, where only the appearance was a work of art. Others focused on collections for a wider audience. One such designer is Wang Changrong. She presented a collection that illustrated women as many different characters: gentle, sexy, active, brave, stylish, healthy, or edgy. What is the best way to represent a woman today? Brave and active, or stylish and sexy? It will always be her choice.

The designer of F / FFFFFF brand showcased a space collection called the Power of the East. The emphasis was made on smart technologies in combination with “7 Fs” – Fashion, Family, Future, Friendhsip, Freedom, Fun, Fresh. This brand also held shows at the New York Fashion Week in September 2018, where it was a runaway success.

J. Yao is another Asian brand whose collection is characterized by sharp tailoring of geometric lines and bold color combinations. Models show clothes that breach the line between gender, age and occasion. This collection was praised by fashion critics in New York and London.

Shanghai Fashion Week also featured fairs and showrooms. Here, buyers and insiders had the chance to view the creations of a variety of brands. The official trade show allowed brands from other industries to show their products. These included jewelry, interior design, decorative items and more. This trade business addition attracts over 1,200 brands from more than 30 different countries.

Shanghai Fashion Week is becoming more popular every year, with the influence of the traditional Chinese spirit felt throughout the event.
