Check the recipes below, and let the celebrations begin.

Equiano is the world’s first African & Caribbean rum company producing a limited batch blend from one of the best emerging distilleries in the world, Gray’s in Mauritius and the world-renowned Barbadian distillery Foursquare. Named after abolitionist Olaudah Equiano, this is a 100% natural rum, with no spices, colorants, additives, or added sugar. Its two expressions — Equiano Original and Equiano Light are perfect for mixing, sipping, and savoring. BIPOC-owned and female-led, its four founders – Aaisha Dadral, Amanda Kakembo, and Ian Burrell created Equiano to reclaim the narrative around the history of rum.

INSPIRATION
“The inspiration for the Coco Rosa came from the idea of a way to express love in a cocktail form.

We’ve all heard the phrase, “Give people their flowers while they can smell them”… I wanted to create a cocktail inspired by that quote, with delicious notes of coconut, citrus, rose, and let’s not forget the star here… Equiano Light Rum! It’s velvety, smooth and says LOVE!” – Adi Batista, Equiano Brand Ambassador, Georgia.

INSPIRATION

“A great person or idea cannot go unnoticed for long, just as cream poured in coffee or tea eventually rises to the top. Olaudah Equiano was a great man. A passionate visionary, symbolized by the passionfruit in this cocktail. He rose to the top despite an institution built to keep him down. The vanilla syrup in Rising to the Top is also a nod towards another enslaved African and passionate visionary, Edmond Albius, who in 1841 at only 12 years old, invented a method to quickly pollinate the vanilla orchid using a thin stick or blade of grass and a simple thumb gesture. Albius’ manual pollination method is still used today, as nearly all vanilla is pollinated by hand. And if you need some music to listen to while enjoying this rich cocktail, I suggest Keni Burke’s ‘Risin to the Top’ ” – Ian Burrell, Equiano Co-Founder & Global Rum Ambassador
