HBO Latino Offers Programming Lineup To Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

HBO Latino has a strong slate of programming to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. From Latin Grammy and Latin Billboard Award-winning reggaetón group, Gente de Zona, comes the second edition of En Letra de Otro, a new music special from the Cuban duo where they cover classic hits in their own style.

October also sees the series finale of Sr. Ávila and the premiere of Entre Nos: A Stand-Up Comedy Special, featuring popular Latino comedians Ramon Rivas, Gina Brillon, Jesus Sepulveda, and Nick Guerra, who cover topics such as vacation preferences to sexual preferences, and “how-to’s” on topics like arguing while driving and dressing for the gym, in this extended English-language special.

Estreno highlights include La Gran Promesa, which follows a desperate father as he kidnaps his own daughter from the hands of his deceased fiancée’s ex-husband. November also brings Hombre de Fe, a film based on the life of Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Keylor Navas and his inspiring journey from rural Costa Rica on a quest to become an elite soccer player. In addition, theatrical favorites like Game NightThe PostFifty Shades FreedLove, Simon, and Tomb Raider make their way to HBO Latino this October and November.

Gente de Zona: En Letra de Otro (October) – In this second edition of En Letra de Otro, Cuban duo Gente de Zona cover classic hits, with their own spin, in a stunning performance along the majestic Havana seaside promenade.

Entre Nos: A Stand-Up Comedy Special (10/05) – Top Latino comedians Ramon Rivas, Gina Brillon, Jesus Sepulveda, and Nick Guerra share the stage in this hilarious one-hour stand-up comedy show.

Entre Nos: Orlando Leyba (November) – ​Comedian Orlando Leyba takes the stage for a half-hour of stand-up comedy in this new HBO Latino special.

Sr. Ávila (SERIES FINALE on 10/01) – In its final season, Señor Ávila returns from the dead to avenge himself, resolve the conflicts with his inner demons and put an end to the secret—and seemingly unattainable—organization.

Student Athlete (10/02) – ​Through compelling case studies, this HBO Sports documentary captures the harsh reality of what it means to be a “student athlete” in a billion-dollar industry, unveiling the NCAA policies that leave many athletes struggling to get by.

Chumel con Chumel Torres (10/08) – ​Mexican comedian and internet sensation Chumel Torres brings his unique political humor back to HBO Latino in this third season of the uninhibited weekly talk show.

Magnifica 70 (10/15) – Set in São Paulo in the 1970s, Magnífica 70 follows Vicente, a government film censor whose fascination with a risqué movie – and its lead actress – takes him out of his safe middle class life and into the city’s red light district. From the seedy “Boca de Lixo” neighborhood, home to the film industry at the time, Magnifica unfolds as a universal and timeless story – the clash between desire and the forbidden, between control and freedom.
