Jose Aldo is regarded as one of the greatest UFC fighters. He has both the most wins and knockouts in UFC and WEC featherweight history, has landed a total of 691 significant strikes in the UFC and the WEC, and holds the record for the longest winning streak in UFC, WEC, Strikeforce and Pride featherweight history, with fifteen consecutive victories. Aldo is on his way back to secure the championship he lost in December. His next stop on that path is Frankie Edgar and UFC 200 taking place July 9th.

Aldo belongs at or near the top of a list of notable Brazilian stylists such as Royce Gracie, Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort, among others. The Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt owns a 25-2 record. In the decade between losses in November 2005 and December 2015, Aldo was undefeated in 18 fights (including 10 title fights and 9 title defenses), reigning as a world champion in the WEC and UFC for 6 years until losing to Conor McGregor

Aldo’s popularity among UFC fans is far reaching – so much, in fact, that a movie about his life is currently in production in Brazil. In our exclusive HOMBRE interview speaks about his expectations for UFC 200 and beyond.

HOMBRE: How are you preparing for this fight?
Jose Aldo: I’m preparing very well. I’m very motivated.

H: How do you prepare now, being that you fought Edgar already?
JA: For me it’s a new fight, a new story. We’re putting more emphasis on things for which we did not train before and I believe we can have an excellent fight.

H: What can the audience expect from this fight?
JA: The public will see a great fight because we are two former champions who are very motivated to win so it should be an exciting match to enjoy.

H: Going back to your childhood, who were some of the people you admired when young?
JA: First of all my father who was a great example. And then in futbol players like Zico of Flamego, and of course Mike Tyson.

H: What life advice can you give your fans?
JA: The first thing is to always do the right thing by others, then you have to work very hard because that’s the only way to get ahead.

H: How do you feel about all the controversies involving McGregor?
JA: My opinion is that all of us are grown up enough to make the right decisions and endure any consequences.

H: You must be anxious for a rematch with him?
JA: Of curse, I’m looking forward to fight him in the future, but first I have to deal with Frankie Edgar and then go from there.
