From Friday, February 11 through Monday, February 14, New York City’s popular Museum of Sex will host an unforgettable “Love Lockdown” event in celebration of Valentine’s Day. The themed activation invites singles, besties, and couples looking for a sexy educational experience to enjoy complimentary Love Infusion “IV”cocktails and inspiring gift bags while navigating the museum’s shop, permanent collection and four current exhibits, including the immersive “Super Funland: Pleasures & Perils in the Erotic Fairground,” a multi-gallery art installation by renowned London-based conceptual artist duo Bompas & Parr featuring a selection of “carnival attractions.”

 The weekend-long “Love Lockdown” event will be split in two sessions:

On Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12, the museum will feature a special “Love Lockdown Foreplay and Galantine’s.”Admission price per person is $39 and includes a combo ticket to the permanent collection, all exhibits, and one special Love Infusion‘IV’ cocktail.

Sunday, February 13, and Monday, February 14 will mark the “Love Lockdown Valentine’s Day.” Single entry costs $55 and includes one combo admission ticket to the museum, one Love Infusion‘IV’ cocktail, an Uberlube, and an exclusive self-love vibe sex toy. Couples pay $110 for two combo admission tickets and receive complimentary Love Infusion‘IV’ cocktails, an Uberlube, a condom, and a set of Museum of Sex Lover’s handcuffs.

  In addition to its permanent collection of over 20,000 artifacts, art, photography, clothing and costumes, technological inventions, and historical ephemera, the Museum of Sex is currently hosting the following exhibits:

 Super Funland: Pleasures & Perils in the Erotic Fairground: An immersive art installation by renowned London-based conceptual artist duo Bompas & Parr, featuring a selection of “carnival attractions” for audiences to enjoy and experience while they contemplate the sexual subtext of carnivals. Amongst the interactive experiences, visitors are invited to jump high in Jump for Joy, a moonbounce made of giant, over-sized breasts, scale a wall of orifices and appendages in Grope Mountain, and lose themselves in The Tunnel of Love, a mirrored labyrinth that leads patrons on a climactic journey to the Gräfenberg (or “G”) Spot, all while listening to a custom carnival soundscape by composer Dom James and tempted by edible treats designed by Bompas & Parr.

Reclaiming and Making: Art, Desire, Violence: A show of artworks by fourteen international artists who have faced and challenged sexually motivated violence through creations dating from the 1970s to the present day, along with a screening of the Sex Workers Project documentary Sex(ual) Healing(2021). These artworks ask us to bear witness both to the reality and history of sexual trauma, and to the resiliency, agency, and healing power that survivors of such trauma manifest. They are showcased in the hopes of developing a safer, healthier, and more liberated sexual culture.

Porno Chic to Sex Positivity: Erotic Content & the Mainstream, 1960 till Today: A presentation of more than 60 videos, fine art, and experimental films, this exhibit chronologically traces pornography’s permeation of mainstream culture over the last forty years. While sex has always been culturally relevant, the creative revolution of the 1960s inspired a more open environment in which erotic material, called “porno chic” was embraced. Today sexual material has seeped into all aspects of mainstream mass media, energizing a variety of cultural genres and sparking the sex positivity movement. This shift of erotic content from the margins to the mainstream has been part of an overall liberalization of popular culture since the 1960s.

Artifact (xxx): Selections from Secret Collections:Gathered from the Museum of Sex’s permanent collection of more than 15,000 objects as well as from other notable collections and institutes of antiques, medical history and sexology, Artifact (xxx): Selections from Secret Collectionspresents an intimate exploration of how sex manifests across culture through art, science, and design. An early vibrator made in Great Britain, a lotus shoe worn by a woman in China, and a Braille issue of Playboy magazine provide insight into prevailing belief systems and societal taboos across geography and time. Fulfilling a wide range of functions from artwork, medical devices and pop-culture mementos to guidebooks and accessories used for enhancing pleasure or pain, these objects tell the stories of the expansive yet nuanced influence of sexuality throughout history.

The Mission of the Museum of Sex is to preserve and present the history, evolution and cultural significance of human sexuality. The Museum produces exhibitions, publications and programs that bring the best of current scholarship to the widest possible audiences and is committed to encouraging public enlightenment, discourse and engagement. The Museum’s permanent collection of over 20,000 artifacts consist of works of art, photography, clothing and costumes, technological inventions and historical ephemera. Additionally, the museum houses both a research library as well as an extensive multimedia library, which includes 8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm, BETA, VHS and DVDs. From fine art to historical ephemera to film, the Museum of Sex preserves an ever-growing collection of sexually related objects that would otherwise be destroyed and discarded due to their sexual content.
