The 5th Edition Of The Galician Cinema & Food Festival Arrives In NYC

On June 24, a new “Galician Cinema & Food Festival” will be launched in New York. The festival, now in its fifth edition, will take place over four days in the Cervantes Institute and Cosentino City Manhattan, and will coincide with the celebration of Fancy Food, the most important food fair in the country.Lucía Freitas, recognized with a Michelin star for her restaurant A Tafona in Santiago de Compostela, will lead the team of Tomiño, the fashionable Galician tavern in Manhattan. She will be the first woman ambassador of the Galician gastronomy who will cross the pond to captain the gastronomic field of this fifth edition of the GC & FF.

There will be an exclusive cooking show starring PescadeRías products for professional distributors and specialized media on the 24th in Cosentino City, A tasting with Galician products “The Taste of the Way Day” (“El sabor del Camino” ) for around 150 people will be served in the courtyard of the Cervantes Institute on the day of June 25.

Estrella Galicia, one of the leading brands in Galicia and sponsor of the event since its inception, will also have its space at Galician Cinema & Food Festival with a “Beer Culture Session” that will take place on Wednesday, June 26. Distributors, hoteliers, and specialized media can enjoy an informative workshop of beer culture that will be accompanied by a tasting of the
company’s beers paired with Galician products.

To close the festival with a flourish there will be a screening of the documentary “Strangers on the Earth – A Journey on the Camino de Santiago” by the director Tristan Cook, after which there will be a panel with the guests at the Cervantes Institute. The documentary will be broadcast in Galician Social Clubs in New York and New Jersey along with the screening of “Walking the Way” by filmmaker Lydia Smith.

There will also be the presentation of the “Galegos con Estrella,” a very special award with which the Consellería de Emigración will recognize Susana Martínez Conde, from A Coruña, a neuroscientist, and writer who is leading the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience of the Medical Center Downstate.

The festival will support the promotion of the Xacobeo Route in New York with the exhibition “The Way to Santiago. A recent experience of pilgrimage ” by photographer Manuel Valcárcel.
The photo exhibition, promoted by the Consellería de Cultura and Turismo with the help of Correos (Spain Post Office public company), portrays the contemporary experience of the
pilgrimage through different snapshots and audiovisual material, promoting the richness and diversity of the Camino de Santiago experience.

The Galician Cinema & Food Festival has the support of the Consellería de Culture y Turismo as well as the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund of the European Union, PescadeRías and Secretaría Xeral de Emigración, from Xunta de Galicia.
